Position Summary:
The HIM Specialist (RW) performs a variety of technical and clerical functions in the Health Information Management department in accordance with departmental policies and procedures providing excellent customer service to all. The incumbent processes incoming requests for medical information of all types, including acceptance of subpoenas, authorizations, and releasing of records according to HIPAA guidelines, state law, and MHS policies and procedures; ensures availability of accurate, complete, and timely medical records; performs medical record sorting; prepares and assembles documents; inputs proper data into the systems and completes quality functions while maintaining accuracy of the patient information.

Minimum Requirements:
Two (2) years of Health Information/Medical Resources Department experience or two years of clerical/administrative experience required
EPIC experience preferred

Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Successful completion of Medical Terminology class preferred
RHIA or RHIT preferred
Knowledge of CMS, and Joint Commission regulations preferred
Possession of a RHIT or RHIA may be considered in lieu of experience
